More 24 Hours of Landahl Memories...

It's Thursday, and a few more images have surfaced from the 24 Hours of Landahl that I thought I'd share with y'all, along with some other random musings after that. Enjoy...Here's a good shot I found of Mod and I at the start, along with one of the DCMTB/City Bikes guys. They finished second in the Expert 4-man class to Mod's Evil Unicorns. Nebraska REPRESENT!

Images of me riding are by Mod...

I got back onto the bike last night for a spin with MW and Bonsall, and it was pretty good. Man, my bum and hands are still feelin' the effects of the solo effort this weekend, and this morning my back is telling me about it again. I drove to work today because sometimes when your body talks to you, you just have to listen... Today mine told me to drive. It didn't ask. So I made the most of it and gave Mrs. G. a ride to school in my little red school bus. It's nice having her working six blocks from home instead of half-way to BFE, like she was last school year... but I digress.

As MW, JB and I rode south on the Jamaica North, we hooked up with with Skip, Cornbread and a friend of Skip's whose name is sadly escaping me, but who is in the process of moving from Michigan to Portland, Oregon -- overall a positive change, no doubt. He seemed stoked, and I wish him the best. Skip didn't seem any worse for the wear of his Landahl effort. Cornbread looks like he's recovered from his WWF SlamFest 5000, as he was effortlessly pedaling an insanely huge gear on his SS Bianchi Roger 'cross bike. Hopefully he's got a strong crank on that there Roger, roger. Watching Skip pedal what looked like half the gear on his SS Indy Fab 'cross bike while going the same speed was an interesting example of their different pedaling styles -- it was like a four cylinder engine and a V-12 -- one spinning wildly, one just lumberin' along.

I looked around, and of the six riders in the group, I was the only one with shifters on my handlebars... and I just about rode my own singlespeed! Man, it's a different world today than it was a few years ago. Rigid, steel, singlespeeds... what's this world coming to?!! What's next?! Unicycles??? You just never know... but that said, I really love my Chili Con Crosso. It is clearly 'cross season too -- Skip, Cornbread and I were all on our 'cross steeds last night.

But I really want a unicycle. It's getting higher on the list.

With that, I'm out. I hope you have a great day, and that you're able to get out and enjoy the absolutely beautiful day we've been blessed with today.

Cheers,
MG

Congratulations MG on your success at Landahl! Next time Laura and I will have to go and help our men out...that is if they catch this 24 hour bug. (: Nice work, buddy!

thanks anne -- that'd be awesome to have you and laura at races with us. mod and i did a good job of giving eachother encouragement at landahl, and it was cool to see him, and the entire evil unicorns team, ride so fast, and do so well. they were really awesome out there...

d-wayne -- you're making a strong case for coming down there and racing next weekend. my body is still pretty thrashed, i found out last night, but i'm not ruling it out yet. it'll be a more last-minute decision though, and at this point in the season, i'm just racing to have fun and ride my bike as much as possible. hopefully i'll be able to make it down. either way, good luck and be safe.

cheers,
mg

I hear ya on the recovery thing, I was going to do it as a team but havnt had a chance to race Dave in a 12hr yet this year, bummer is he has never lost one yet. how for from st louis or you?

MG said...

nice... good luck in that. it's about a seven hour drive to st. louis, and as i was talking through that with my wife tonight, i think it became clear what i should do. so sadly, i won't get to see you kick lots of ass next weekend dwayne, but i know you will. you're riding super strong right now. just stay on the bike and keep the calories coming in. you'll be good to go.

good luck my friend.

cheers,
mg

A few more 12 hour and 24 hour races and you're going to have to convince Salsa to unleash a full suspension twenty-niner... '-)

As always, way to ride Matt.

I'm taking my dogs for a ride in the woods today - all at a casual dog's pace.

Nah, I can't make the party on the 19th. Junior plays QB and Friday nights are football nights until the final game of the season at the end of October. But drink one for me, will you? I promise next year to tell a joke to keep you going every time you ride by me when you lap me in a race.

Here's to Dad (me) keeping his fingers crossed that Junior finishes the football season without any major injuries...

i've got my fingers crossed for ya' buddy. we'll miss ya' bruce, but i totally understand. i miss friday night high school football, but i bet it's a lot different as a parent. yikes! yeah, i'll have those fingers crossed...
