Platte at night.... oh, purdy good.

Happy Friday, and thanks to those who made it out to Platte last night for the night ride. While I don't have pics to prove anything, I can tell you that a super time was had by all. We even had a super-surprise guest appearance by none other than Matt Jennings, our old GB from the Cycle Works days (think mid-90s). He's back for a few days, and had his trusty steel Salsa (and a headlight) with him, so he was good to go... and go we did.

Despite riding on many trails he'd never been on before, AT NIGHT, Jennings hung on just fine. In fact, I'm not even sure if he was working, 'cuz he never seemed out of breath. Being on my singlespeed, I was huffin' and puffin' away on the climbs. You can't go easy on those things out there...

My light conked out about 2/3-way through the ride, so I got to ride by braille (sp?) down the main horse trail in the pitch black dark. No moon to light the way last night... A deer and I scared the shit out of eachother because when I pedaled, I made almost no noise. Apparently I got pretty close to this deer on the trail (of course I couldn't see that he was on the trail...), and when I started coasting (and my King hub started going ziiiiiiiiinnnnnnngggg), the deer and I both realized we were way too close for comfort. That'll elevate the 'ol heart rate...

Despite JP's pleadings to go up to Bike Bash with him this weekend, I've gotta' stay home and enjoy the non-racing weekend... so brothers and sisters, I'll be riding this weekend. Just riding. Not racing. Just riding. I'm sure you'll be able to spot me. I'll be with the long-hair on the pink bike...
:-}
Cheers,
MG
