That's a good looking bike there mg. What made you go for the single crown Mav fork?

it's the best 'niner fork i've ridden...

it looks cool...

i've been jealous of nate ever since he got one for his kona ss earlier this year...

i don't want to jump back on the rockshox bandwagon again just yet...

why, you heard bad things about them? most of the bad things i've heard about sc32s on the bulletin boards and such haven't borne out to be issues for those i know (who ride them).

so far so good. it felt great on the j street cobbles this morning on the way to work!

Actually, I haven't really heard anything about the SC32. How's it ride compared to the duc?

I had thought about it before and figured if I was going with a Mav fork, I'd just go with the big dog - heck, you have to run the freaky hub anyway, might as well do it up.

In retrospect, though, that'd slack out the head angle a bit much. Not to mention the lack of tight steering available with the dual crown. Report back and let me know how that thing rides.

I think the duc 32 is going to be the fork on the next demo bike - Intense 6.6...

yeah, after my experience thus far with the sc32, i'd definitely buy a duc. no question... i've heard a couple of people bitch about a lack of lateral stiffness, but i just don't feel it when i'm riding. you know wilderness can bring the flex out in forks, and it's been nothing but good trackin'.

i don't think you pay a real weight penalty for going with the duc either. like you mention, it's more of a wacked out headtube angle issue than anything. that salsa is almost steep enough... you might be able to pull it off actually, but i like how the sc steers. it feels super fast climbing with the travel shortened too. that may end up being one of my favorite things about that fork at places like platte, or on an extended climb like you have in your neck 'o the woods.

shit davey, you should get on maverick's direct program. your shop is practically those guys' local shop. you know you have common friends to pt...

what have you heard about the on-one niner? it looks like a good design, and the more i learn about that company, the more i like 'em. i'm totally sold on the benefit of mary bars (and i'm sure you love the name).

cheers,
mg

Nice!

What happened to the Kona project?

MG said...

oh the kona project is still a go. the unit-29 will be my singlespeed... we'll see what ends up happening for a race bike next year. not thinking too far ahead at this point. schlake already has his '06 kona, and it sure looks sweet.

that salsa was just too tempting... i've wanted to try that frame for a while now, so i'm just followin' through, i guess. so far so good though! :-}
